Stickmaker Seamie |
|
|
Seamie works with all natural wood, which he gathers in Kildare where he lives. Using all handpicked sticks to create the perfect walking stick for hill climbers, fishermen, deer stalking and for anyone who likes the novelty of a stick. The quality and strength of the sticks is of the highest standard and all sticks are fully seasoned. Through the years a lot of Seamie's sticks have gone to all parts of Ireland and to many parts of the world, such as England, Wales, Scotland, France, Canada, America, Brazil, New Zealand, The Isle of Man, Jersey, and South Africa. He has also supplied sticks to the Balmoral Estate in Scotland. Seamie guarantees the superb craftsmanship of his work and would like to say to anyone who has received one of his great variety of Sticks, Dog whistles, Bottle openers, Corkscrews and Fishing priests, that they enjoy the use of them as much as he has enjoyed the craft of making them. Seamie fashions Walking sticks, Thumb sticks, Wading sticks, Knob sticks, Cardigan Sticks, Wooden Shepherd's crooks and Buffalo Horn crooks, on Blackthorn, Hazel, Ash, Hawthorn, Holly and sycamore to name but a few. Seamie also fashions Dog whistles, (which can be built into some of the sticks), Fishing Priests, Bottle openers and Wine bottle openers. Seamie The Stickmaker We contacted Seamie to provide the props for a key set in the opening story of our new six part series of Single-Handed which will broadcast on RTE1 in the autumn (this particular story aired on the 7th and 14th November 2010) and on ITV1 in 2011. Our Prop buyer tracked down Seamie and was impressed by his traditional wood carving skills which were ideal for our particular needs on this story. Seamie also provided advice on how to dress the set in an authentic way, for instance which tools a craftsman would use, which traditional materials a cane-maker would choose and Seamie also provided the raw materials and canes at various stages of production.
